Suzanne “Suzi” Carter, 82, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska, after a brief stint with cancer.
She was born on March 23, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to William and Dorothy Schwartz.Suzi was a kind, smart and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had an infectious smile, boundless energy and a warmth that could light up a room. Those who knew her will remember her generous spirit, her genuine interest in others and the joy she brought to the people around her.
Born and raised in Houston, Suzi later moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she met and would marry the love of her life, Michael Carter. Together, Suzi and Mike built a life that took them to Fort Worth, Salt Lake City, Houston and eventually Kansas City, where they raised their two children, Carie and Brian. After a brief time in Chicago, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, for Mike’s work. Omaha became their home for the last 30 years.
Suzi cherished her friendships and the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed spending time with friends, getting lost in a good book and, especially, a spirited game of gin rummy. She had a wonderful ability to make people feel comfortable, welcome and cared for.
But perhaps her greatest joy and most treasured role was becoming “Mimi” to her three grandchildren, Jack, Danielle and Noa. Although they did not always live in the same city, Suzi made it a priority to be an important and integral part of their lives. She loved hearing their stories, sharing in their experiences and offering advice whenever they needed it. Her love for her grandchildren was unconditional and unwavering, and the bond they shared was one of the greatest joys of her life.
Suzi is survived by her husband of 61 years, Michael; her children, Carie Carter (Eden Wofsey) and Brian Carter (Jill); and her beloved grandchildren, Jack Carter, Danielle Carter and Noa Wofsey-Carter. In addition, she leaves a lasting legacy with her fellow Schwartz sisters, Elaine, Barbi and Ann, affectionately known as the “Sister Squad”.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her family will remember Suzi for her beautiful smile, her loving heart, her wisdom, her friendship and, above all, the love she gave so freely to the people around her. Her memory will live on through the family she loved so deeply and the many lives she touched.
